How To Convert Recessed Lights To LED

How To Convert Recessed Lights To LED

Converting your recessed lights to LED is a quick and affordable way to freshen up your home’s lighting.

Households around the world are switching to LED to enjoy improved energy efficiency, longer lifespan, and a clean, modern look.

In terms of benefits, upgrading to LED is a no brainer, and, better yet, converting old recessed lighting to modern LED has never been easier. All you need is an LED retrofit kit - a simple piece of equipment that uses your existing lighting housing.

What Are the Benefits for Converting Can Lights to LED

So, why should you consider converting recessed lights to LED?

The number one reason for switching to LED is significant savings in energy costs. LEDs emit around 10 watts of energy while emitting the same level of brightness as a traditional 60-watt bulb.

The minimal energy usage lowers your energy bills by about 80% compared to an incandescent bulb. Remember, these savings are per bulb - the more bulbs you upgrade to LED, the more significant your monthly savings will be!

Another benefit of LED is its more natural-looking light, with a higher level of brightness and range of colour. If you opt for a Smart LED Converter Kit, you’ll be able to control your lighting’s colour and brightness and create lighting sequences with your smartphone.

How to Tell If Your Recessed Lights Can Be Converted to LED

Before you purchase LED conversion kits and get excited about the prospect of new, modern lighting, it’s wise to check if your recessed lights are convertible.

You can tell if your recessed lights can be converted to LED by checking the mounting springs.

Most LED converter kits use v-shaped torsion springs to fit into the fixture’s internal brackets. If your existing housing doesn't have the necessary internal bracket, you'll have to replace the entire fixture.

  • Remove the bulb from the housing fixture.
  • Pull the trim down to see how it is attached. If v-shaped torsion springs attach it, it’s compatible.
  • To be sure, remove the trim and look inside to see if the brackets are on the inside.
